“God loves a lullaby, in a mother’s tears, in the dead of night better than a hallelujah sometimes..”Amy Grant in her new song goes on to sing that a drunkard’s cry and a soldier’s plea for his life are better than a hallelujah sometimes. “We cry out in misery,  God just hears a melody.” There’s nothing sweeter to God than a broken contrite heart.

Mordecai was in misery. His people, the Jews in the land of Persia, were scheduled to be killed by an evil man close to the king. So he and the Jews fasted and cried, literally wept, before God for their safety. Then Esther and her female servants fasted and prayed too. She was going into the king’s throne room uninvited which carried the possibility of death. But she was a queen in Persia for such a time as this. And she had to plea for her people.

This fasting and praying they did found Esther favor in the eyes of the king. She immediately found favor with him when she walked in the throne room. Not only that, it found favor in the eyes of God so that the king made a decree that the Jews would be saved. …”Beautiful the mess we are, honest cries from breaking hearts, are better than a Hallelujah.” Honest cries move God.
