Embroidery We Are

October 11, 2010 Donna New

Psalm 139:15 My frame was not hidden from You when I was being formed in secret [and] intricately and curiously wrought [as if embroidered with various colors] in the depths of the earth [a region of darkness and mystery].

We were formed somewhere that no one could see us. I don’t understand it therefore I can’t explain it but God knew we were being formed in the region of darkness and mystery. That explains my fascination with Captain Jack Sparrow, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and Harry Potter. I was created in mystery and darkness in the depths of the earth. It kind of seems like a little workshop down there where He creates who we are from conception to our parting from this earth. The next verse says something like “Your book contained all the days of my life before they ever took shape.”

Then, while He’s doing that creating He’s weaving, embroidering, our bodies and our personalities and our days with colorful thread. Have you ever embroidered? It can be tedious because it’s intricate and it takes a lot of small details to make one pretty flower. We were painstakingly formed just the way we are for a specific purpose. Esther was born “for such a time as this.” Well, so are we. We each have our calling. And as the website Monster says, “Your calling is calling.” We need to live it out.

Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) received a letter from a little girl that said she and her friends were pirates and they wanted to mutiny their teacher at school but couldn’t do it on their own. Would he please help? Well Johnny was shooting a film in England where this little girl was and he showed up as Captain Jack Sparrow and hugged the little girl. He said they’d have to mutiny some other time because there were policeman with him right now. So even though Johnny Depp was woven in darkness and mystery there’s a goodness in him and there’s a goodness and light in us if we know the Lord. But there’s also a dark side that we have to be aware of and not feed too much.

I want to be grateful for the way I’m woven. I want to live as if I’m here for such a time as this. I want my light to shine and not put a bushel over it. Thank You Lord for I am fearfully and wonderfully and curiously made.
