Wisdom Is Attractive

The tongue of the wise makes knowledge attractive…Proverbs 15:2

Religious Christianity can be really boring. The preacher not called to preach can cause the sermon to be dry or condemning. No one enjoys that unless they’re a dry, condemning person also. And that’s not the way Christianity was meant to be.

Jesus was not attractive physically but He drew people to Him. He illustrated His stories with word pictures…stories the people understood and that had deep meaning in their everyday lives. He wasn’t condemning to the majority of people but rather instructive, interesting, and significant. The people whom He condemned were those that were dry, condemning hypocrites, not those who desired to live right but stumbled and admitted it.

A lot of knowledge can be really boring. Depending on what your interests are math, science, English, home economics, academic classes may not be your cup of tea. But if you have the right teacher, which is rare, any class can be a joy to go to just because of their personality and the heart they put into their study.

My little brother is handsome. Women blush just when they meet him. But he has depth that makes him even more attractive. My brother was visiting the office of a school for a work related project.  A little, special ed girl was screaming. The psychologist couldn’t control her, her teacher couldn’t control her. She had stolen someone’s backpack and she must have been half scared half angry. My brother came up to her and tenderly said, “Hey, what’s your name?” And she told him with a speech impediment. Then he talked to her a little further and sat down on the floor with her and gently calmed her down. She began explaining what she had done in clearer words than the psychologist had every heard her talk. He has wisdom that is attractive. It calms, it engages, it changes a child. The psychologist asked if they could keep  him. She couldn’t but she knew she had something special with him. Wisdom makes knowledge attractive.
