Amazing Prayer

There was a movie about a man who was amazing and enchanting at playing the violin. When he played it was as if there was no one else around him. He was in his own world.  He could play on the street and there would be an audience in a New York minute. He was homeless and labeled as schizophrenic. Had he taken his medicine he could have lived a normal life, halfway normal at least but he refused to.

One night he went into the homeless shelter to get out of the cold. It was bedtime so he began quietly praying the Lord’s Prayer. “Our Father Who art in heaven, hallowed be Your Name.” (A picture was shown of the homeless shelter’s  church with stained glass windows of Christ, the pictures hallowing His Name) “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us  this day our daily bread” (And pictures were shown of the homeless shelter feeding the homeless, in answer to his prayer.) “And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation” (drug dealers, as a temptation) “but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” (And the pictures showed all the homeless covering up and going to sleep.) It was as if his prayer, the Lord’s Prayer put the hundreds of homeless all over the city to bed for the night. It was one of the most beautiful scenes in a movie I’ve been to. I believe The Lord’s prayer has global power, not as a ritual but as a heartfelt, fervent call to God.

There are people in this world who are handicapped in one way or another. This guy could have chosen to be “normalish.” But he chose to minister to our world through his strangeness, through his eccentricity, through his spirituality and through his Savant talent. Odd our God is, that He would use the small and the foolish to confound the wise through a prayer and a violin.
