Loved Much

What would make a really tough woman of the world cry? Would it be someone mocking her? Would it be indifference to her? Would it be embarrassment? No, not for a tough girl. It would be love and grace and tenderness.

And standing behind Him at His feet weeping, she began to wet His feet with [her] tears, and she wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed His feet [affectionately] and anointed them with the ointment (perfume) Luke 7:38

She was weeping greatly, enough to wash Jesus’ feet with her tears and then poured on his feet, from an alabaster jar, perfume. What a sweet expression of love for her Savior. There were no ulterior motives just a pure response to God’s love and forgiveness.

Therefore I tell you her sins [many as they are], are forgiven her – because she has loved much. But he who is forgiven little loves little. Luke 7:47 Jesus showed many people love. They heard Him speak and tell the story of the Prodigal Son. They heard the simple qualities in the Beatitudes. And he healed person after person because He was moved with compassion. But very few responded with love for Him. The nine lepers left and only the tenth said thank you. There was a room full of people with this lady but only she was worshiping.

But Jesus said to the woman, Your faith has saved you go (enter) into peace [the freedom from all the distresses that are experienced as the result of sin]. Luke 7:50 There is no peace that comes like the peace after worshiping our Savior. It washes away our sins as our tears wet His feet and we pour perfume of song or prayer on Him.
