His Appearance Was Like…

November 18, 2010 Donna New

Maybe His appearance is more than physical. In heaven it’s a spiritual experience. And today, now, in the present, His description gives us Someone to pray to, Someone to dream of, Someone to anticipate being with.

And in the midst of the lampstands [One] like a Son of Man, clothed with a robe which reached to His feet and with a girdle of gold about his breast. His head and His hair were white like white wool [is white] as snow and His eyes [flashed] like a flame of fire….and from His mouth there came forth a sharp two edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full power at midday. Revelation 1:13,14,16

His appearance may seem physical and not spiritually very important. On earth it was important because there was nothing handsome about Him to draw us to Him physically. In heaven it will be important because when we shall see His face we shall be like Him.

He had on a girdle of gold to my inexperienced opinion meant Jesus’ heart had been tried by fire, (Proverbs 17:3) or by the experiences of suffering He had been through. His head was pure white. In Lord of the Rings the good wizard goes through a hellish experience and comes out glowing white. That’s just a small inkling of how our Jesus will look with white hair and head. Beautiful.

His eyes flashed like flames of fire, maybe because He pierces through our hearts with His gaze. He knows all the tougher experiences we’ve been through to get where we are and He knows our love for Him, and He has mercy and grace for us.

His tongue is a two edged sword because He speaks the word of God and it cuts through us. He glows like the noon sun because He’s pure.

I want to pray and look into His eyes so all of these things would be in my heart as I was praying. He’s a merciful priest who’s been through what I’ve been through. He glows with wisdom and speaks God’s word to me, His eyes flash with passion and insight into my heart. His face warms my heart like the sun. His appearance makes a difference in our lives even now.
