A Yearning

November 24, 2010 Donna New

The Lord was with Jehoshaphat because he walked in the ways of his father [David]. He…sought and yearned with all his desire for the Lord. 2 Chronicles 17:3,4 Amp

This yearning for God is the sweetest yearning. For those who are saved from darkness by grace our heart’s desire is to know Him. [For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that i may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His person more strongly and more clearly]…Philippians 3:10 Amp

Jehoshaphat taught his people, God’s straying people, how to love God again. He passed on his yearning to the children of Israel. He cleansed the cities of  handmade gods. He sent trustworthy princes and priests to preach to the people so they could learn God’s love, God’s desire for them and how they should respond to Him. When a battle came up Jehoshaphat first sought God for help in how to deal with the enemy. His yearning spilled over into the lives of other people by loving leadership.

Yearning for God with all our desire is so deeply personal. No one knows our troubles or our joys or our questions like our Savior. To worship Him through song or prayer comes from within the secret places of our hearts. But that yearning and desire should pour forth to obedience from our hearts, not adherence to a lot of rules but obeying with a listening ear.

Quite true. Resting in Him is important. I had a preacher once say about our relationship with God “depend, depend, depend!” That’s resting in Him. Thank you for your comment. I appreciate the feedback.
