The Word

And the Word (Christ) became flesh (human, incarnate) and tabernacled (fixed His tent of flesh, lived awhile) among us; and we saw His glory…John 1:14

A word is a precious thing. It can cause someone to laugh, it can keep their attention, it can make them cry for joy or sorrow. A word is a powerful thing. It can move crowds into action, it can cause war or peace.

God chose one of Jesus’ Names to be “the Word.” It was because Jesus did all of the above for one reason. But another reason is even more beautiful. When the Word was born, became human, He was here to communicate. He didn’t have a message, He was a message. His message was to be God’s heart to us.

That’s why he healed as many as a God-man could. That’s why He showed grace to a prostitute. That’s why He said “Jerusalem, how I have longed to take you under my wings…” That’s why He fed 5000. That’s why He gave Himself for us completely on the cross. He had such warmth and compassion and love for us. He was communicating God.

God our Heavenly Father has the most tender, kind heart. And He showed it through Jesus, the Word, His communication to us. He has power, and anger and revenge in Him also. But to the simple people, to the sinners, to the seeking, to the humble He shows His grace and mercy.
