Long Wait

Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days. Ecclesiastes11:1

We pray because we need things only our Heavenly Father can provide. We pray for others, our friends, our family because they have needs or wants that the Lord would be the One to give to them. We kind of expect an answer the next day but that’s not the way it usually happens.

Usually, it takes longer than my faith can endure. I begin losing heart after a while. I begin to doubt He answers prayer. I wonder if I’ve sinned and He won’t answer me.

But this verse in Ecclesiastes says it takes many days. It takes time. God is still listening. He is going to answer. He will move in our lives in spite of the long wait.

Ephesians 6;18-20 says we’re to pray because it’s a battle. We need to help the saints stay alert and bold for the Lord. So we have to keep at it each day. I stumble in this area of daily prayer.

Revelation 5:8 says there are golden bowls in heaven filled with incense that are the prayers of God’s people. So each prayer remains in heaven as incense before our Lord, the Lamb of God. I want to pray so that God has some incense from me. It may take a while to fill a bowl but I want to do that.

In John 15 it says to abide in Jesus and He will abide in us. The Father has loved Him and He has loved the Father. We can have that kind of love between the Father, Jesus and us. And the way is abiding in His word and asking Him what we’re to do next, how can we obey Him. Prayer is an important part of us feeling loved by God. We have to remain in prayer and we will know God’s tenderness and compassion. It’s not always an overnight thing, this abiding. It’s a daily thing. So we have to keep casting our bread upon the waters.
