Your Name is Perfume

Song of Solomon 1:3 ‘your Name is perfume poured out.

Luke 7:38 …she began to wet His feet with her tears; and she wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed his feet…and anointed them with the ointment (perfume).

She loved Him. Jesus had shown her His integrity by not succumbing to her but leading her to a new life. Jesus had seen deep in her soul to the little girl who was hungry for love that was pure. Jesus had shown her grace to cover her sins, which Luke says in the Bible, “were especially wicked.” So the grace had to be especially poignant. Jesus had become her best Friend. He was her I AM.

So when she poured out the perfume she was pouring out His Name, which is everything He had been to her. That’s where the emotion came from, just going through her heart and mind about what He had done and who He was. Something about Him touches our heart of hearts in the most powerful way. We’re overwhelmed with His Name, His character.
