To be a Messenger

March 1, 2011 Donna New

“In God’s kingdom, the message and the messenger are intertwined, so that the lives the prophets lived often become the message itself. That’s important for us to remember because the same dynamic works in our lives too. God doesn’t just give us a message: He shapes us as messengers.” Chris Tiegreen

What Chris is saying is that Moses went from being royalty in a palace to the wilderness to saving his people. And Jesus went from being royalty in heaven to earth to wilderness to saving His people. Hosea, the prophet, a messenger of God, married a prostitute that would prove to be unfaithful to Hosea. Israel had been unfaithful to God by worshiping idols.

So every situation we’re placed in, every response we give is a picture to others of how God is, who God is and how God will respond to them. We’re a living Jesus on display. God does most of the work; we just draw close to Him and He gently teaches us how to respond. And so, God is shaping us to be the messenger we were meant to be when He created us.

I feel like we’re a painting on God’s easel and the world is watching what He is creating. In each of us He’s painting Jesus in a different landscape. Our lives mean something to those who are watching. They’re hungering to see the progress of the painting. We each have our own burdens to bear and joys to cheer us. And we each respond in our own Christlike way. “For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do the good works…” Ephesians 2:10

I read Chris Tiegreen’s book Fixing Abraham a while ago and loved it. It was one of those instances when I felt like God led me to the book I needed to read right then.

” In each of us He’s painting Jesus in a different landscape.”

Great way of putting it. Blessings,

I’ll have to find that book. This quote was from a devotional book “Indeed.” But he sounds like he’s a pretty wise gentleman.

AS I was reading this post this morning it was a reminder to me of how important is is to be in His word. If we are going to be His messengers we have to know the message that He wants us to share.

Definitely. Being in His word makes us more like Him.
