Our Authority

April 3, 2011 Donna New

In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I come again, and will receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. John 14:2, 3

Another translation for mansion is place of authority. Our home is our place of authority if we have one that is prepared for us.

Authority, is earned. It’s bestowed for instance in the workplace for work well done and good relationships with fellow employees. In the armed forces it is bestowed for obedience and bravery in battle. In God’s kingdom it’s how well we serve.

So all of us will be given places to be leaders. There are battles we all have fought down here and if we fought bravely or disobediently determines our place of leadership. Another factor is our servanthood; did we give and love others.

Clarence, in It’s A Wonderful Life, was an angel without wings, missing some authority. He didn’t earn his salvation by helping George but he earned his wings, his authority by his obedience to God and by his loving, warmhearted service to George. He seemed clumsy at his job but that wasn’t what counted. He cared about who he was entrusted with and did his best to bring George back to himself.
