John 3:17

We so often quote the verse John 3:16 because beautiful and meaningful it is. God so loved us that He offered up His only Son so we would have everlasting life. That’s a beautiful love, a meaningful sacrifice.

But after we’re saved John 3:17 is something we should take in our heart. It says For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world but that the world should be saved through Him. God had in His heart all of time to offer a way out of the condemnation of our sin. He clothed Adam and Eve. He became the God Who Sees to a mean little servant girl who was lost in the Desert. She was thirsty and her boy was severely thirsty. This boy would become the enemies of God’s people. But God had compassion on her, not condemning, and He showed her where water was.

He had no condemnation for the woman at the well who had approximately seven husbands. He had no condemnation for the people filled with demons.

This is not just a way of life for Jesus. We’re meant to be steeped in compassion. Condemnation should not be a part of our heart. Our calling is to be like our Savior.
