Inherent Purpose

Philippians 2:2-4 …make full my joy, that ye be of the same mind, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind; doing nothing through faction or through vainglory, but in lowliness of mind each counting other better than himself; not looking each of you to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others.

We were talking in Singles the other night about unity of the Spirit. Here’s one description of unity. We count others as better than ourselves looking out to the things of others.

Looking out to the things of others is not so much watching  their material goods as watching their situations to see if you can help by praying or in some other more tangible way. It’s being available for other people’s troubles and giving the appropriate assistance. Sometimes all a sick person needs is your prescence to give them a smile. It goes a long way in helping them to heal.

Everyone with no exception was born with pleasure in God’s heart and a purpose for their lives…a fresh, new little person. Sometimes someone ruins their purpose nevertheless the image of God remains. So all people deserve respect and should be looked up to so their purpose can be realized or fulfilled. My brother who is a policeman treats with respect all his juveniles who get into trouble. Each situation is different but he tries to sit at their level and discuss with them their issue. He listens and  solves it with the least amount of punishment and the greatest benefit for the youth. That should be the attitude of all of us: how can we better the other person’s life so they grow and fulfill their purpose.

These don’t come easy. But I’d love to grow in this area…treating everyone from leaders to children with respect and helping them to realize their purpose

What Should I Wear?

Put on therefore, as God’s elect, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, meekness, longsuffering; forbearing one another, and forgiving each other, if any man have a complaint against any; even as the Lord forgave you, Colossians 4:13,14

I like being made holy to be cleansed and pure. But to be beloved is comforting and is like having a knight in shining armor by my side. I am loved and protected. Because we are holy and beloved there are some qualities we can choose to wear. We are loved so we can “put on compassion, kindness, forgiveness”. We can put forgiveness on because we are forgiven. Our knight in shining armor gives us confidence to be vulnerable with qualities.that open our hearts”. The only way to love is to be vulnerable and to wear these qualities daily”

We Have Heard

…we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints, For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel; Colossians  1:4,5

. Do you ever feel like you live your live, giving all and you can’t tell if it has any meaning? Does what I’m doing make a difference? Paul  had heard of the faith of these Colossians. Paul encouraged them that he noticed  that they were loving the saints. That’s a job that takes dedication and sacrifice. It isn’t easy.  Not only that but in the Place of Rest is some hope for them. They are pleasing the Lord.

Someone is watching us. The effort we put into this life we live is noticed.  One  day in heaven we’ll find hope because we’ve been faithful

Fresh and Clean

I want a gift from you because it is a fragrant aroma to Jesus and it will bring a gift on your account not NOT that I am in need. Its more blessed to give than receive, and there’s all kinds of little reasons to give. Paul had eyes in his heart not in his head, eyes for God, eyes for the Philippians.

I’m so selfish wanting material goods, things to make me “happy.” Paul wanted the sweet aroma of a selfless gift. I enjoy the aroma of my perfumes. They make me feel clean and fresh. Imagine the clean fresh aroma of a spiritual gift. So God teach me to give with a selfless love clean and fresh before You. Philippians 4:17-19

What is Love?

Philippians 1:6-8 Amp …a summary… He who began the work in you will complete it. How do I know? Because you have me in your heart and I have you in my heart. For I long for you and pursue you with tender mercies like our Savior had. This is Paul talking to the Philippians.

John 13:35 That’s how Paul knew the work would be complete in them because they were Christians who showed love. There are people who show their tender mercies towards me and there’s no question they are being completed. I want to learn from them how to show people tender mercies.

My brothers show me tender mercies. They build me a handrail for my steps outside. They climb the attic stairs which I can no longer do. They discuss major purchases with me to make sure I get something useful, of good quality and pleasing to me and all with a sense of humor. They show such love through the practical help they give. How do I give back or show this love to others?

Maybe I’m meant to love in a different way. I’m a girl for one and I don’t have their knowledge for two. Yeah, I was meant to love differently. Prayer is something the Lord has called me to. I need to be faithful in prayer. Writing this the Lord called me to so I need to write honestly and with care. I’m activities coordinator for the Singles Group at Church. I need to be improving in that area and it needs to be ministered with tender mercies.

Lord, show tender mercies through me. They have been lavished on me through my friends and family. Show me how to love. Paul is such a beautiful example with the Philippians of the two way street of Jesus’ affection and mercy. Make me like my Savior.

Help Me, Lord

Yesterday, I was wondering what Jesus purpose is for me. I want to lay hold of His purpose for me, not necessarily my purpose for me. Part of His purpose is for me to know Him more intimately and more deeply. But part lies in this verse… Proverbs 31:12 Amp “She comforts, encourages and does him only good as long as there is life within her.” I want to one day comfort, encourage and do him only good as long as there is life within me. That’s what marriage is for. This is for a man and his wife but I don’t have a husband yet so I need to practice with others. And really we should all be comforting and encouraging.

This lady understood that he had things that weighed him down and needed comfort, and he might have insecurities that needed encouragement. And he needed someone to do him good in his days of being hassled maybe. All of us have these troubles at some point. So other people need comfort, encouragement and good deeds too.

We can be the way she is. As much as I want to it doesn’t come naturally to me. So I have to ask the Lord, show me how to comfort Father. Show me when he’s sad, show me when she’s discouraged. Place encouraging words in me. Show me someone who’s insecure or feeling inadequate for their job. Help me realize when someone needs a good deed, maybe a random act of kindness. Give me wisdom Lord when someone needs a surprise. Show me Lord how to live the way this Proverbs 31 woman lived.

As the days on which the Jews got rest from their enemies and as the month which was turned for them from sorrow to gladness and from mourning into a holiday – that they should make them days of feasting and gladness, days of sending choice portions to one another and gifts to the poor. Esther 9:22

The Jews celebrated something a little similar to our Christmas. The people of  Persia were going to kill them all until they prayed and Esther went into the king on behalf of the lives of her people. Once the king said yes to Esther, she could stop the massacre, the people began to celebrate.

The way they celebrated was by giving food to each other and gifts to the poor. What a beautiful way to celebrate a rescue by God – to give to each other. And not only that, they took care of the poor on this day. How it must please God for Him to see His people with generous hearts due to His power and might on their behalf.

Today we give gifts to each other and we buy a can of pumpkin or a turkey for a love basket to someone in need. It’s still pretty beautiful to me. I know it’s commercialized and they draw us in with their magnetic advertisements but we do the buying with love, we do the wrapping with love, we do the giving with love. And it’s all to celebrate a rescue by God.

He gave His Son, our freedom, on Christmas Day so that we would love each other. But the One we don’t want to forget is Him. There’s no way to give Him a card and a TV or a gift card to WalMart but we can take out a little time to remember Him that day. Just sit back in your room by yourself and think on how a poor baby came to love you. To save you. To talk with you. To be your Best Friend. Just worship a bit. And then go out and celebrate!
